The Semicolon: When To Use It

Although you may use the semicolon less frequently than other punctuation marks (or maybe not at all since its use may not be too clear), it is still useful to understand when to use it. The semicolon ( ; ) has two main functions. The first is to separate independent clauses and the second to separate major word groupings from lesser ones.
