The eBook Writing Process
by Sara Lancaster@ No2Pen
When clients contact us about eBook writing, we usually hear one of two questions: “How does eBook writing work?” and “What is the process for eBook writing?”
Since every eBook project is different, it’s hard to say exactly. However, when speaking in general terms, here are the main phases of eBook creation:
- Brainstorming ideas, concepts, and finding resources. This initial phase is completed by both you and the No. 2 Pen together.
- You need to determine the “question” you want your eBook to answer.
- Research other competing eBooks to be sure yours is different and better!
- Create an eBook outline and a table of contents. This will tell you all the main issues that will be covered and in what order.
- The writing phase of eBook creation.
- The editing phase of eBook creation. This phase requires input from you so the No. 2 Pen can make the correct revisions.
- Format the eBook within Microsoft Word or other software so the layout looks nice. This is also the time we will insert images and charts, if necessary.
- The proofreading phase.
- Now it’s time to let the world know your eBook is available on the World Wide Web. Depending on how you choose to distribute the book and whether or not the eBook will be purchased or given away, marketing approaches will vary. However, here are just a few ideas on how to effectively market an eBook:
- Web site promotion
- Blog posts
- E-mails
- Squidoo lens
- Twitter, and much, much more
